Winter in Cold Springs, Upstate NY
For our latest Autumn collection we travelled to the landscape of Cold Springs, in upstate New York. The inspiration behind the collection.
Cold Spring sits quietly on the banks of the Hudson, a small town of clapboard houses and antique storefronts, framed by the Hudson Highlands and watched over by the ruins of Bannerman Castle across the water. construction and fluid structure, ideal for the transition into spring. Jackets are softly tailored with minimal padding, offering ease without sacrificing precision. Trousers fall with a relaxed drape, cut from lightweight wools, linens and cottons that move gracefully through Lisbon’s cobbled streets.
Upstate New York in the autumn carries a particular stillness, wood smoke on the air, the low light catching on the river, a slower pace after the city. The surrounding hills turn through deep russets and burnt reds, plum-dark maples and strands of cream and gold, set against the flat grey of the water and the fading green of the pines. It is a landscape that feels worn in rather than styled, rustic and unhurried, with a quiet, dependable beauty that lingers well past the first frost.
The collection reflects the quiet richness of the landscape, becoming dependable, wearable and with an air of rugged style. Greatcoats arrive in rich melton wools, brushed and dependable to the touch. Unlined and softly tailored jackets take shape in earthy brown gun club checks, alongside rich cashmere jackets in deep plum tones. Safari jackets are cut in oatmeal, with cashmere tweed options in tonal Russel checks. Trousers follow in fawn and grey, and shirts in navy, dark brown and sky flannel. Knitwear rounds out the collection in elegant Donegal wools, mottled and flecked, both muted yet punctuated by flashes of colour, reflecting the tones of the landscape of Upstate.
The collection reflects the changing season, new colours and textures, designed to be worn and lived in. A curated wardrobe, understated and easy.
The Russell Check
A jacket belonging to autumn as much as the navy blazer belongs to summer. We wanted to create that jacket properly, in a cloth with the weight to earn its keep on cold mornings.
Russell Checks are traditionally bright and unforgiving, shouting and not whispering. We wanted to create a check pattern more in keeping with our muted and tonal style. Creating a unique fabric, soft to touch, yet tweed like to the eye, showcasing a neutral palette. Easy to wear, pair and hopefully pass down.
