What happens when the world of Savile Row meets the world's finest toy shop?
To celebrate its 266th birthday and National Teddy Bear Day, Hamleys invited Cad & The Dandy to create something rather special: a collection of ten individually tailored teddy bears, each with their own character, wardrobe and very particular sense of style.
And naturally, we treated them just like any other bespoke client.
Standing just 12 inches tall, each bear was personally fitted by our tailors before patterns were cut and miniature jackets, trousers, shirts and accessories constructed by hand. The scale may have changed, but the process, precision and attention to detail remained very much the same.
The result is The Ultimate Bear Collection, a rather distinguished cast of characters ranging from morning-suited party bear William Everly and sporting Teddy Fairplay to tweed-clad Alistair Bramblecroft, Reginald Ledgerworth and Josephine Sinclair.
Creating tailoring at this scale proved both painstaking and surprisingly good fun. Tiny hems were finished, miniature collars shaped and trouser turn-ups perfected, with each bear gradually taking on a personality of their own. By the time they left Savile Row, it's fair to say our team had become rather attached.
The full collection is now on display at Hamleys' Regent Street flagship throughout September, before the bears begin their next adventures, with the collection set to raise money for charity.
If you find yourself on Regent Street this month, we highly recommend paying them a visit. After all, it's not every day you get to see ten of Savile Row's smallest and best-dressed clients in one place.
